
Golden girl gets given gong at gala!
CARLOW’S golden girl, Saoirse Ronan, was honoured at a gala dinner last Friday, 29 May, when she picked up a best of Irish award. The ceremony in the Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin honoured a total of 13 Irish people who made special contributions to Irish society for any number of reasons during last year, 2008.
Saoirse picked up the award for February after she flew the Irish flag at the Oscars last year when she was nominated for her magnificent performance in the film Atonement. The Ardattin teenager has several blockbuster films under her belt and picked up the award for her outstanding contribution to film and for doing a fantastic job of representing Ireland in Hollywood. The Lovely Bones, an adaptation of the hugely popular book by Alice Sebold. Directed by Peter Jackson,
who also directed the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Saoirse stars alongside Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz and Susan Sarandon.
